AAI Seeking New Part-time Personal Assistant to ED with Research Competence
AIDS Accountability International (AAI) is seeking to appoint a Personal Assistant with research competence to our Cape Town secretariat. The person will be primarily responsible for supporting the newly employed Executive Director and also provide some research assistance.
This person will, besides the professional skills, also bring understanding of Health, Human Rights and Social Justice issues.
The position is set to a 50 - 60% employment.

AAI was established in 2005 with the mission to follow up on commitments to the AIDS epidemic that were made by governments. Our work has since expanded to sexual and reproductive health and rights, malaria, tuberculosis, and non-communicable diseases, as well as underlying causes such as inequality and discrimination. We work on holding all leaders accountable, such as business, civil society, funding partners and bi and multi-lateral development organizations. AAI is non-partisan and non-confessional. Today, we are just under 10 employees located in offices in South Africa, Brussels and Stockholm. The Swedish Secretariat works mainly “remotely” on financial and operational issues, whilst the South Africa office leads on strategy, research and advocacy. Brussels provides grant-writing, research and communications support. In 2017, AAI started a five-year Build-programme supported by the Ford Foundation, and will expand our staff resources in different areas. The Role of Personal AssistantThe PA role is to assist the Executive Director in all practical matters; travel, meeting preparations and follow-up, administration around the office in general and presence when required.
The Research RoleThe Research part of the work will contribute to AAI’s work in the form of supporting the Executive Director in research and advocacy work by mainly providing assistance around research activities, research administration/management, reporting. The research work will be coordinated with the Director of Research and Communication. All these tasks and activities are expected to be done in a timely, consistent and high-quality manner with professionalism, integrity, honesty and excellence and in collaboration with the other researchers and staff.
Background and ExperienceCandidates for the role will require
- Minimum 3-year job experience in PA or similar position
- Research experience
- Experience from work in human rights, health, social justice, governance, sexual reproductive health and rights, is meriting
- Experience in working in partnership with civil society actors and advocates;
- Experience from working in an international organization is an asset.
Skills and CompetenciesCandidates should possess
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English - other languages an asset;
- A manifest commitment to the human rights part of the AAI agenda;
- Research literacy - must understand the core work of AAI;
- Willingness to perform simpler office jobs, like copying and putting reports together;
- Optimism and openness to new ideas and occasionally to travel.
